We always say that coaching is about moments rather than trophies and accolades. This video captures a moment in Jessamine County High School soccer that is unforgettable.
Ours was a five year old program searching for an identity, playing a storied Lexington Catholic team. The high school would split into two schools the following season so if we were going to make some noise as JCHS, this was the time.
The odds were against us, but no one told our players. With the score tied at 0-0 with 15 minutes to play, Joe Bottom Abshire hit a perfect ball from 25+ yards that clipped the left post and went in. Our players worked harder than ever during the closing minutes to preserve the win–one that would never be forgotten by those who were there.
Even though this took place October 7, 1996, it still inspires to this day. I hope you enjoy our moment.
